Privacy Policy
By creating an account on grunt.games, using the Grunt Games desktop client, or otherwise using the Grunt Games Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
This Privacy Policy explains how Genmo, Inc. ("Genmo", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with the Grunt Games service and the website at grunt.games (together, the "Grunt Games Service" or the "Services").
Grunt Games is a brand and online service operated by Genmo, Inc., a company based in San Francisco, California.
1. SCOPE
This Privacy Policy applies to:
- Your use of the website at grunt.games;
- Your use of the Grunt Games desktop client and related tools; and
- Any gameplay footage and input data that you choose to submit through the Services.
This Policy does not cover third-party services, such as game publishers, platforms (e.g., Steam, console platforms), payment processors, or communication tools, even if you access them through our Services.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We design Grunt Games to collect minimal personal information. We do not require you to provide your real name, physical address, or similar identity details in order to participate. We also design our capture process so that gameplay footage should not contain your personal information.
2.1 Information you provide directly
- Account information.
- Email address (required for account creation and communication).
- Password or other credentials you choose.
- Payment and verification information (if needed for payouts).
- Phone number, if required to send payments or verify your identity with our payment provider.
- Any additional information you provide to our payment provider (such as tax forms or payment account details) is processed by that provider under their own privacy policy. We typically only receive limited information necessary to complete the payment and comply with law.
- Questionnaire responses. When you sign up, we may ask a short questionnaire about your gaming setup and preferences. We design these questions so they do not require personally identifying information.
- Support communications. If you contact us (for example, by email or via a form), we collect the information you send us, which may include personal information you voluntarily provide.
2.2 Information collected through the Client
When you use the Grunt Games desktop client (the "Client") on your device, we collect:
- Gameplay footage ("Footage"). Video and audio of your gameplay sessions for approved games, as captured by the Client when you enable recording and click "Submit".
- Input and telemetry data ("Input Data"). Technical and interaction data associated with your gameplay session, which can include:
- Mouse or trackpad movements;
- Keyboard and controller input events;
- Frame rate, performance metrics, and other basic system or game telemetry (e.g., resolution, graphics settings, game version).
We generally do not need or want personal information embedded in Footage or Input Data. We design the capture guidelines and Client behavior to avoid collecting personal information within those recordings (for example, by focusing solely on game content).
2.3 Device and usage information
We may collect limited technical information about how you access and use the Services, such as:
- Device type, operating system, and version;
- IP address or approximate region;
- Logs about crashes, errors, and performance;
- Basic usage information (e.g., when you log in, when you submit a session, client version).
We use this information primarily to operate, secure, and improve the Services.
3. WHAT WE DO NOT INTEND TO COLLECT
- We do not require you to provide your physical address, government ID numbers, or similar sensitive personal identifiers to use the Grunt Games Service.
- We do not intend for uploaded gameplay Footage to contain personal information about you or anyone else.
- We ask that you do not capture or submit:
- Your own face via webcam;
- On-screen personal messages, chats, or overlays that include names or contact details;
- Any other content that reveals personal information about you or others.
If you believe you have submitted personal information in Footage, please contact us so we can review your request.
4. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use the information we collect for purposes including:
- Providing and operating the Services.
- Creating and managing accounts;
- Running the Client and processing Footage and Input Data you submit;
- Reviewing submissions to determine whether they meet our capture and quality guidelines;
- Calculating and issuing payouts for Approved Footage.
- Developing and improving products.
- Creating derived datasets, analytics, and tools;
- Improving capture performance and quality standards.
- Communicating with you.
- Sending administrative messages (e.g., approval decisions, payout notifications, policy updates);
- Responding to questions and support requests.
- Security and fraud prevention.
- Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, cheating, or misuse of the Services;
- Protecting the integrity of our systems and models;
- Enforcing our Terms of Service.
- Legal and compliance.
- Complying with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or enforceable governmental requests;
- Protecting our rights, privacy, safety, or property, and/or that of our users or others.
As described in the Terms of Service, Genmo may create and own aggregated, anonymized, or derived data based on Footage and Input Data and may use that data for research, product development, and other purposes.
5. LOCAL STORAGE AND DELETION OF RECORDED FOOTAGE
- Local storage. When you record gameplay with the Client, the raw Footage is stored locally on your device while you play and prepare it for submission.
- Upload and server storage. When you click "Submit", the Client uploads Footage and associated Input Data to Genmo's systems so we can review it, determine eligibility for payment, and use it as described in this Policy and the Terms of Service.
- Your control over local copies. After upload, you will have the option to delete the locally stored Footage on your computer through the Client or your operating system. We do not control your local device and cannot delete files stored outside the Client on your behalf.
- Server-side retention. Footage and Input Data that you submit and we receive may be stored by Genmo for as long as necessary to operate the Services, train and evaluate models, meet legal obligations, and protect our rights, even if you remove local copies from your device.
6. LEGAL BASIS AND USER RESPONSIBILITY FOR GAME CONTENT
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of any games with the Grunt Games Service is legal and properly licensed.
By using the Services and agreeing to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service, you confirm and represent that:
- You have all necessary rights and permissions from game publishers, platforms, and any other relevant rights holders to record, upload, and license the Footage and Input Data to Genmo;
- Your recordings and submissions do not infringe any intellectual property, contract, or other rights of any third party; and
- Your use of the Services does not violate any applicable EULA, terms of use, or anti-cheat policy.
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Genmo is not responsible or liable if the content you provide is illegal, unlicensed, or otherwise violates third-party rights; and
- You agree to be responsible for, and to indemnify Genmo against, any claims or damages arising from your unlawful or unauthorized use of game content, as further described in the Terms of Service.
7. DATA RETENTION
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- Provide the Services to you and other users;
- Fulfill the purposes described in this Policy and in the Terms of Service;
- Satisfy legal, tax, and accounting obligations; and
- Protect our rights and enforce our agreements.
Because Footage and Input Data may be used to train and improve models, we may retain copies of that data and derivations for an extended period, even after your account is closed, subject to applicable law and our internal policies.
8. YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights over your information, such as the right to:
- Access certain information we hold about you;
- Correct or update your account information (e.g., your email address);
- Delete or deactivate your account;
- Object to or restrict certain types of processing;
- Opt out of non-essential emails (e.g., marketing).
You can exercise many of these rights through your account settings or by contacting us at:
We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests and may retain some information where permitted or required by law.
9. SECURITY
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect the information we collect from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no system can be completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your account credentials confidential;
- Using secure devices and networks;
- Not sharing your account with others.
10. CHILDREN
The Grunt Games Service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 18 (or under the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
11. INTERNATIONAL USERS
The Services are operated from the United States. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States or other countries, which may have data protection laws different from those in your jurisdiction.
12. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date below and may provide additional notice (such as a banner or email) for material changes.
Your continued use of the Grunt Games Service after the updated Policy becomes effective means you accept the new Policy. If you do not agree, you should stop using the Services and uninstall the Client.
